Day 15: Saturday June 20: Whitebird to Grangville Idaho

27 miles Old HWY 95 is beautiful. We switch backed up the mountain with Wills and Caroline the brother/sister team we keep running across. 2500 ft of elevation over 10 miles. Frank loved it and I grinded it out. We had great views and virtually had the road to ourselves. It was ideal riding marred only by the fact that we rode most of it in a light shower. So into a hotel tonight to dry out again. We met two guys in Subway riding Westbound...one on a Surly long haul trucker, pulling a trailer without a cover, no fenders, jeans, sneakers, and his helmet hanging off the back of the trailer. The other kid had ridden from NY in his Bike Friday, pulling a Bike Friday trailer, wearing Crocs, and no helmet... Kids these days...Franks favorite part of the day was the ride up the hill and he says he doesn't remember the rain, just some sprinkles. ( I think that is his Aberdeen brain working)

  1. Looks like you are headed to Missoula. Route 93 south through Victor (great steakhouse there)and Hamilton (Dan got married here) is pretty. Hope the rain stops!

  3. Fiona says that she hates uphill - "it's stupid" she says. Ahh the workings of a 12 year old mind.

We thought the little town of White Bird was fun - only 150 people!

  4. And to think that you will be looking back on all this cool rainy weather with great fondness once you get into the heat of the prairies.

  5. When are you guys going to be in Yellowstone? Are you heading up the Gallatin to West Yellowstone and out the Park to Cody or Jackson Hole? Gary and I just got back from the Park last week and it was snowing and cold has hell. Beth and I are heading back after the 4th hopefully we can meet up?
