We are taking a day off

Carbondale, Il. I just have a story for the blog.
A story : We met a couple, Alan and Donna, and their 9 year old son, Lewis, at the bike store today. They said they have been following us all across the country, just a day or 2 behind, according to other riders. They have had quite a trip. They are from Shelton, WA and just started out of their front door with Alan and Lewis on a tandem and Donna on a single. They rode down to Astoria and on into Eugene and Donna's bike was stolen from I'm front of a Safeway store. Everything gone. The local radio and TV station went public with it and they found the bike and the empty panniers in a dumpster. The seat was missing and the wheels had been traded out. People made donations and she went to a second hand store and got clothes. But all her ID was gone. Anyway they continue the ride. Fast forward to two days ago. They are at the famous fire station in Farmington. ( the kid loves it) A few miles out of town, the next day, Donna has a stick catch in her spokes and she flips over the front of her bike. She has terrible road rash and her wheel and front fork are toast. They some how got back to the fire station( I missed that part) and the guys there fixed her up. Then one of the firemen drove them to Carbondale as it has the closest bike shop. And that is how they caught up with us. And she is getting back on her bike tomorrow! What a trooper.

  1. Quite the story -- what a trooper.

And you guys -- you slipped into a new state without thinking it worth mentioning. Getting routine? Less that a month to go. Wow.
